Episode 78: Reading Garden construction has begun!

Suzanne and Nancy discuss the good news: after 3 years construction has finally begun on the Reading Garden and Entrance. This will cause a couple of months of frustrating changes within the building and parking lot, but the end result will be enchanting and whimsical.

Episode 50 - Getting started with 3D printing at the library

Ellen and Jessica unpack the Cube 2 printers.

 This winter the Duxbury Free Library received two student tabletop Cube 2 3D printers from a grant sponsored by the American Library Association and 3D Systems Corporation.

In addition, we had budgeted to purchase a high-grade Ultimaker 2 printer.

All three printers are now used daily in conjunction with TinkerCad and AutoDesk Inventor programs.

TinkerCad is great for beginners and Inventor is for serious programmer who want to dig deep into the architecture of designing for the 3D printer.

Glenn works with Lynda.com to learn AutoDesk Inventor.

Tinkering Tuesdays we are busy with the Cube 2s and on Saturday mornings in mid-May, we will begin a series of programs to introduce adults and teens to the world of 3D printing.

Episode 47: Leslie Mortland parlays her China experience into a fascinating job

2008 Duxbury High School graduate, Leslie Mortland, was an AFS student in China and studied Chinese at SUNY Albany. After graduating, she explored Europe on her own, bounced through various jobs until she landed on one that uses her expertise in Chinese and her innate communication skills to broaden American awareness of the depth and beauty of Chinese culture. Her advice: just because you have a job doesn't mean you stop looking for a better one. Search engine job searches work!

American Phoebe Marshall-Raimbeau is the Director of the Bibliothèque Anglophone, in Angers, France.
She reached out to us over eight years ago to become a sister library with hers and we have been collaborating ever since.
 Pen pals, Skyping, Garden Club visitors, email updates have all been ways we have maintained our link to the wonderful people of Angers.

Razia Jan, the former Duxbury merchant and president of the Duxbury Rotary club, talks about her journey back to Afghanistan after 9-11 to bring the power of girls education into an area of 7 conservative villages. Her story is a testiment to the effect one person can have on the lives of many.
