Today we talk about the games we were obsessed with this past summer: Michael played nothing by No Man’s Sky once it came out, and I went through the entirety of Witcher 3. Both great games, but very different in style, tone, gameplay, and objectives. So we have lots of fun discussing how much we loved both!

This week we catch up on all the fun stuff that happened this past summer - San Diego Comic Con news, Pokemon Go update, comics I’ve been reading, Walking Dead speculation (including a spoiler from the comics - watch out!), and the new best Netflix show ever: Stranger Things!

Today we finally get around to recap our reactions to this year’s E3, recorded just after the annual videogame conference this year. I give my impressions about Xbox news, Michael gets into Playstation news, and of course we both wax rhapsodic about the new Zelda game, complete with speculation about the game and the new NX system it will apparently be released on. Lots of good stuff this year!
One thing we didn’t get to talk about was the game Guinevere and the Fallen King, which Callum Boothman, library patron and son of DFL staff member Kirstin Boothman went to this year’s E3 to present. Definitely check it out on their website and Facebook page!
Note: the term I was trying to think of in relation to the Fallout 4 Contraptions DLC was Rube Goldberg-type machines. Love those!

This episode we get all spoilery about Game of Thrones season 6, including our favorite storylines, characters, and dramatic events from the entire season. And of course, now that the show is completely off books, we get into plenty of speculation about what’s to come in the last two (shorter) seasons left of the show.
Haven’t caught up with Game of Thrones yet? Check out seasons 1-5 from the library, and check back in with us when season 6 is released on DVD before you listen to this episode!
Finally inspired to try the books? The entire Ice and Fire series and offshoots can be found at the library too.

Today we talk about one of our favorite franchises: Harvest Moon (now called Story of Seasons - and we get into why the series name changed in this episode). This classic farm sim game paved the road for tons of very popular games, so we go back and review the series from the beginning, including what made the series so unique and what made the individual games so awesome. This is a criminally underrated game series, so hopefully we do it justice and make a good case for why everyone should at least give it a shot!

Today we talk about everyone’s favorite Merc with a Mouth -- Deadpool. Michael and I are celebrating the release of the movie on DVD and Blu-Ray by getting deep into our feelings about it -- what we liked, what we didn’t; what we thought was totally awesome, and what was maybe a little disappointing. But all in all, I think we conclude that it is totally fun and absolutely worth watching.
Note: this is a spoilercast. You have been warned.

Today we discuss the amazing movies of Studio
Ghibli, and Japanese film director, producer, screenwriter,
animator, author, and artist extraordinaire, Hayao Miyazaki. We go
through our favorites, what we like about each one, common themes
that cross a lot of Miyazaki movies, and things that are maybe a
little strange. And, very importantly, Michael tries to explain to
me the ending of Princess
Mononoke and convince me that it
doesn’t invalidate the message of the rest of the movie. But
mostly, we gush about how great all these movies are!
Have we inspired you to give any of these
movies a try?
Here are all the Miyazaki videos OCLN has available to borrow - try
one, try em all!

Today we talk about that surly epitome of comic book fame -- Batman. Is he a superhero or just a masked vigilante with rage issues? We discuss everything from favorite actors, best villains, and the morality of killing enemies or keeping them alive, covering movies, tv, comics, and video games. Holy podcast Batman!
Note: we recorded this episode before Batman v. Superman was released, so as we say at the end of the episode, we’ll be back another time with our impressions of that movie.

Today we discuss the game we’re both playing right now -- Fallout 4. We talk about the setting, stats, armor, weapons, enemies, companions, and lots more awesome stuff! Neither of us have gotten very far into the main storyline, so this is a spoiler-free, fun conversation about all the factors that make the game so great (and a couple small complaints, because of course). Overall, a fantastic game that is absolutely worth playing for fans of the franchise and newbies alike!

In this week’s episode, we discuss the great gaming debate: Microsoft Xbox vs. Sony Playstation systems. We give some background on our history with the systems -- including Playstation, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 -- favorite games and milestones.
We finish with the systems we’re playing now; one of us has an XBox One and the other has a Playstation 4. Will we ever find common ground?!
Note: We recorded this in December 2015, so when we say games are coming out next year, we mean 2016!

Welcome to our new podcast series -- Hey! Listen! dedicated to all things geek and gamer-related. In this episode, we introduce ourselves via highlights from our gaming pasts.
A bit more about us:
BETH: A library associate at the Duxbury Free Library, I have a graduate degree in environmental policy and undergraduate in sociology and journalism. I am a MA resident, avid reader (especially of fantasy, historical fiction, and YA), passionate cook, and amateur painter. My top fandoms are Doctor Who, Supernatural, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, and all things Joss Whedon. I am a lifelong gamer, starting with the original Nintendo and continuing with every Nintendo console through the Wii, with a secondary selection of other rotating consoles, and extensive gaming on a Mac. The Xbox One is now my console of choice. I’ve always tended to gravitate more toward RPGs and fantasy-based games, though not exclusively. My least favorite gaming style is turn-based, my most favorite is open-world RPGs.
I also write a book review blog for the library, From Austen to Zusak. Check it out here.
MICHAEL: A library associate at the Duxbury Free Library, I have an undergraduate degree in history and archaeology. I’ve lived in Hingham, MA my whole life and also work in the archives of the Hingham Historical Society. I’ve always been an avid gamer from the original NES to my first Gameboy and so on through the years. I’m a massive Nintendo and Playstation II fan but also dabble in other consoles. Currently I primarily play the Xbox360 and PS4. I am also a big MMO fan, having played several over the years including World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, City of Villains, Star Wars Galaxies, and The Old Republic. I’ve always loved fantasy games and sandbox style or open world titles. My favorite console of all time is the N64. Other fandoms include Harry Potter, Magic the Gathering, LoTR, Pokemon, Star Wars, and Studio Ghibli. I love to write, blog, draw, and be outside (contrary to my geeky obsessions!).
I also write a blog for the library, Dive Deep into Music & Movies. Check it out here.
